Fifty years since the launch of the biggest-selling album in the history of music – Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the 60 players of the orchestra will be joined by a Beatles–style rock band, and outstanding young voices from Blaxland High and Faulconbridge Primary in a medley of Beatles favourites – Fool on the Hill, When I’m 64, Let It Be, Eleanor Rigby, Get Back, Imagine, all arranged and orchestrated by Australian composer/arranger Graham Howard, who had his first musical experiences at York Primary and Jamison High.
Orchestra spokesman Mal Hewitt recently paid tribute to the Blaxland High performers who “cleaned up everything” at the Bathurst and also the Penrith Eisteddfod. Members of the senior vocal ensemble (from Yr 9 to Yr 11) were the high school vocal champions at both events.
The orchestra will also play some favourite items from the orchestral repertoire – Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony (come to the concert and find the real story about it), some of the incidental music Edvard Grieg wrote for the Ibsen play Peer Gynt, and dances with the flavour of Spain from the ballet Three Cornered Hat, by Manuel de Falla.
To book for the event call the box office on 4723 5050 or online at www.bluemountainstheatre.com. Tickets are adults $25, children $15 and a family ticket at $70.
