He’s been known to wear several dresses in his time and September 2 was no different.
Noel Pope donned a white wedding dress and his wife Debi a smart suit, in a wedding-themed dinner dance fundraiser held in Lawson for Beyond Blue.
The Popes, who own Lawson post office, were celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary, and decided to turn the evening into a fundraiser for the charity.
“My daughter Zoe has depression. As a father you think you can make it all right, you think you can click your fingers and everything will be okay. I figured I could help by fundraising for Beyond Blue,” Mr Pope said.
“I’m helping her by helping others. It’s a modern endemic.”
Mr Pope has raised nearly $50,000 for Beyond Blue and CareFlight in the past seven years. He’s ridden between capital cities on his bike and the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic is a favourite – dressed as Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and Little Red Riding Hood, to encourage people to give generously.
“I’m always putting a dress on for something,” he said.
The dinner dance was attended by 100 people, with $7000 raised. Mr Pope is grateful for the support of the community and is hoping to make it to $10,000.
He said the whole mantra of the night was a celebration of individuality, being free to be who you are and love whomever you want.
