With a total of 11 magical gardens to visit, a marvellous music program, an art show and an even wider range of goods available at the plant sales centre, this year’s Leura Gardens Festival is not to be missed.
The 2017 festival, the 53rd, will take place from Saturday, September 30 to Sunday, October 8 with the cost of an all-gardens ticket being $25 per person, or $8 per person per individual garden.
The 11 gardens in this year’s festival include two new to the festival and four returning after a break, including the ever-popular Ewanrigg and The Braes.
President, Brooke Broughton, said that as the festival continues to grow in popularity each year, so too has the money raised increased, which has enabled the festival to widen its scope in allocating donations beyond the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital to several local health-related organisations.
Recently $6,00 was donated to Greystanes Disability Services towards the purchase of a new patient transport vehicle.
Six thousand dollars will be donated to Blue Mountains Health Trust to fund a scholarship and $6000 to Cancer Wellness Support (formerly Blue Mountains Cancer Help).
The total figure raised for the hospital is now well over $2 million which has resulted in the hospital being one of the best equipped for its size in the state.
In the last couple of years festival funds have been used for the completion of a dual-purpose space for patients and family/visitors in the east wing with equipment including the most up-to-date beds and recliners. Also complete is stage one of a centrally located outpatient department which will free up space in the emergency department and allow more services to be provided.
