Katoomba’s Winter Magic Festival, one of Australia’s largest community street events in Australia, will turn 25 next year and is seeking a team of community-minded people to help make magic happen.
Preparations are already underway for the 2018 anniversary celebrations of the Winter Magic Festival, a unique, free, annual community event that celebrates the winter solstice.
The Winter Magic Festival (WMF) Association is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, November 1 at 7pm, and invites interested residents to support this major community event by joining the association as a member of the organising committee, the production team or as a supporter.
WMF spokesperson, Bec Tyson, said: “The 25th anniversary of Winter Magic Festival is a significant milestone for a grassroots community event coordinated entirely by local volunteers.
“We are calling on the local community to join the festival team and help make 2018 a Winter Magic birthday to remember.”
The event, first held in 1994, remains the Blue Mountains highest profile and most anticipated cultural event attracting thousands of people from the Blue Mountains, Sydney, NSW, all over Australia and indeed the world.
Ms Tyson said the festival wouldn’t happen without the dedicated volunteers, community supporters and sponsors.
“It’s a big job putting on a festival of this size but it’s a lot of fun and very rewarding,” she said. “The Winter Magic Festival is close to the heart of thousands of people.”
The Winter Magic Festival celebrates the spirit of creativity, seasons and the community. It provides a range of economic and social benefits to the Blue Mountains community and is part of the cultural heritage of Katoomba.
“If you’d like to be a part of the festival team in 2018, we’d love to hear from you,” said Ms Tyson. “There are many ways you support the Festival to suit your interests, skills and schedule.”
All committee positions will be open for election at the AGM: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and up to three ordinary committee members. The festival also needs interested people to join the production team as volunteer event co-ordinators for the roles of festival co-ordinator, stalls, parade, entertainment, waste, volunteers, sponsorship, marketing and ArtStreet.
“Once the 2018 team is on board, it’s all systems go to bring next year’s festival to life,” said Ms Tyson.
To be an active participant, individuals may become a financial member of the Winter Magic Festival Association, which only costs $2 annually. This allows members to actively take part in the AGM.
People interested in the festival are invited and encouraged to attend the Winter Magic Festival Association AGM on November 1 at 7pm in the St Hilda’s Anglican Church Hall, 68 Katoomba St, Katoomba.
