More than 59,000 Ford vehicles across Australia are being recalled after a defect was discovered that could lead to smoke or even fire.
Ford Rangers that were available for sale between July 12, 2016 and December 7, 2017 are affected by the recall.
The recall has been made because of a defect that can cause vegetation to become stuck under the vehicle near the exhaust system, when it is driven over long grass.
This area can reach a high temperature and if enough grass or other combustible material has accumulated, it might be ignited, causing smoke or flames to appear from under the vehicle.
Ford will write to owners of affected vehicles.
Until parts are available, owners are advised to refer to warnings in the owner manual, particularly the sections starting and stopping the engine - general information; starting and stopping the engine – diesel particulate filter; and fuel and refueling – catalytic converter.
For further information, owners can contact an authorised Ford dealer or Ford's customer relationship centre on 1800 503 672.
More information, including a list of vehicle identification numbers, is also available on the Product Safety Australia website.
