More than 140 people celebrated the birthday of Robert Burns, the famous Scottish songwriter and poet, at the Blackheath Golf and Community Club on Saturday night, January 27.
As well as enjoying a traditional meal of haggis and Scottish steak pie, the large audience was welcomed at the door by a piper and hosts in highland dress.
During the evening they were entertained by classical singers David Hamilton and Linda Foulsham and local singer Christine Wheeler, who joined forces with Blue Mountains musical group, the Orchard Boat, to sing a selection of Burns’ songs including a hugely crowd pleasing version of A Man's A Man For A' That.
The entertainment also included poetry readings and an exhibition of Scottish country dancing by the Blue Mountains Scottish Country Dance Club.
Clubhouse committee member Peter Meadows said: “Our Burns Supper was part of our regular Wednesday and Saturday entertainment programs designed to make the Blackheath Golf and Community Club the best place in Blackheath for our members, our community and our visitors to relax and enjoy themselves.”
Mr Meadows said that due to popularity of the event it would become a regular event on the last Saturday of January every year.
