The steering committee for the establishment of a Bendigo Community Bank at Blaxland is encouraging people to pledge to invest in or bank with, the proposed Bendigo Bank Blaxland.
With enormous support from local businesses and community organisations, Jo Bromilow, the president of the Blaxland Chamber of Commerce, said the next step in the process was a formal feasibility study. “We need to raise some money to do that properly,” she said.
Richard Anthony from Anthony Brothers & Co tapas restaurant at Brookland is on the steering committee and to help with the fundraising will be hosting the Blaxland Bank Project Lunch at Anthony Bros & Co on Sunday, October 14.
Tickets are $200 per head with $150 of that going towards the feasibility study. Donations will also be accepted.
About $1 million needs to be pledged to be invested in the community bank, before it can get off the ground.
Ms Bromilow encouraged people to pledge to move their banking to the Blaxland Bendigo Bank when it is established.
“The Bendigo Bank at Katoomba is assisting with this process so people can start right now to bank with Bendigo Bank and it will be allocated to the Blaxland branch when it is established,” she said.
Pledge forms are available at: IGA Blaxland, Blaxland Pharmacy, East Blaxland Pharmacy, Blaxland Medical Centre, Glenbrook solicitor Sandra Morey and Glenbrook Medical Centre.
