About 70 dancers performed a Flash Mob routine to the Gene Kelly classic Singin’ In The Rain in brilliant sunshine on the forecourt of The Carrington Hotel in Katoomba on Saturday (October 12).
The group dance event was organised by Katoomba Theatre Company, in association with Ballet Art Katoomba, as part of the Festival of Walking. Company manager Belle Buttrose said many of the dancers had learned the routine from the rehearsal video on their Facebook page and “it didn’t take very long for choreographer Kathleen Hamilton and event director Larry Buttrose to rehearse the entire group into it, and for cameraman Nick A’hern to go for a take”.
“We got it all down in five takes, from various angles, and the event was over in about an hour — which was just as well as the afternoon sun was becoming hotter by the minute,” she added. Courtney Turvey (in the striped dress) taught the steps on the day and a video of the event would be posted on the KTC Facebook page, she said.
