Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill was presented with an award for Outstanding Community Service and Leadership at a graduation ceremony at the University of Western Sydney on December 19.
The university’s governing body conferred the award on Clr Greenhill following his leadership during the bushfire crisis and for his role in setting up the Mayoral Relief Fund which has raised $3 million dollars for fire-affected residents.
“This is an absolute honour and I accept it in recognition of the bravery and generosity of the wonderful community I am so privileged to serve,” said Clr Greenhill.
“I would like to thank the university for this generosity and for supporting the Blue Mountains throughout this difficult time. We all recall their announcement that fire-affected HSC students were guaranteed a place at the university. That is amazing community spirit.”
