The body of a teenage boy has been recovered from Wentworth Falls Lake after he fell into the water while on a fishing trip with his younger brother.
The 16-year-old was believed to have been trying to retrieve a fish he had just snagged when he slipped into the Lake just after 5pm on Wednesday, police said.
The boy began struggling in the water and soon disappeared under the surface.
The boy's family raised the alarm, and officers from Police Rescue, the Diving Unit, Marine Area Command and Blue Mountains Local Area Command began searching the lake.
The boy's distraught family remained at the lake while emergency services searched into the night.
Police said the boy's body was found submerged in the water just after 10.30pm on Wednesday. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
It was first reported that the boy was 18.
"We have been told he'd been trying to retrieve something when he slipped and fell," a police spokeswoman said.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
