"This book contains 350 of my photographs from 21 Australian climbing areas - including a chapter on the Blue Mountains - and it also has excerpts written by 80 climbers," Mr Carter said.
"All the photos were taken from an abseil rope, so they involved quite a bit of rigging and hanging around.
"It's a project that's taken two years to do and it turned out to be something far greater than I envisaged at the onset - bringing the beauty and soul of Australian climbing to life."
Elite climbers he photographed for the book include his wife, Monique Forestier, at climbing routes in the Blue Mountains and interstate, including the grade 29 Daedalus on Taipan Wall in the Grampians, Victoria.
Mr Carter said production of the book is progressing well and a crowd funding campaign on the Kickstarter website to help cover some of the printing costs reached its target yesterday.
"The support was really appreciated - it means a lot to me. We hope to be shipping books in late October or November."
