IT is time to put Maitland on the map – the Monopoly map.
Monopoly is preparing to release a world edition of the popular board game.
Instead of streets, players will collect stamps in their passport for all of the places they visit, and Maitland has an opportunity to be one of them.
From March 3 to 9 people can vote for their city to be the wild card entry and join 22 of the world’s most prominent locations on the board.
“I think it is fantastic,” the mayor of Maitland, Cr Peter Blackmore, said. “Several parts of Maitland already fit on the Monopoly board.
“We have a station, a town centre, a jail and we have several banks. We deserve a spot.
“It’s time for Maitland to roll double sixes.”
At the end of the week, the destination and city with the most votes will take the last two brown spaces on the new game.
Titled Monopoly Here and Now the world edition will be released in September to mark the board game’s 80th anniversary.
As players race around the board collecting passport stamps, they can also buy places and charge visitor fees when opponents land on their locations.
The first player to fill their passport wins.
Residents are encouraged to head online to www.votemonopoly.com and vote for Maitland to be included. Votes can also be shared on social media by using the hashtag #VoteMONOPOLY.
