A bronze bust of the explorer Gregory Blaxland could soon take pride of place in the town bearing his name.
Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill vowed to follow-up the fate of the commemorative bust after Aboriginal elder Uncle Graeme Cooper raised the issue during the opening ceremony at Blaxland Explorers' Day on Saturday.
"The sculpture of Gregory John Blaxland was unveiled two years ago and it still hasn't arrived - and that to me is a worry. Part and parcel of this day is really to honour one of our greatest explorers," he said during the Welcome to Country.
Mayor Greenhill agreed the bust, by Wentworth Falls sculptor Terrance Plowright, belonged in Blaxland.
"I'm not sure where the bust is but I'll tell you this: I'll find it," he said.
"Because I agree with you entirely, it ought to be right here in Blaxland."
Shoppers on Saturday where treated to an array of street stalls and live music as the Blaxland and Districts Chamber of Commerce held the annual community festival.
Chamber president Jo Bromilow said the day was "all about shopping local and making sure we look after everybody because if we look after everybody it means we employ locals too".
Federal Member for Macquarie Louise Markus congratulated the chamber on organising the day which she said was a "wonderful celebration".
State Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle also paid tribute to the Blaxland business community as well as its schools and community services sector.
