Your garden gnome looking a little shabby? Are you too embarrassed for it to be seen in public, let alone taking part in the annual gnome convention?

Take heart. For the first time in its 11-year history, the convention will offer a free gnome painting service as part of Australia Day celebrations on Glenbrook Park next month.
Gnome grand master David Cook said several gnome “carers” advised last year that they did not register their gnomes for the convention because they were looking “a little drab and tired”.
“The Gnome Convention is the feature attraction of Australia Day celebrations on Glenbrook Park and naturally we have to do something to rectify the situation,” he said.
“Families travel great distances to attend Australia Day celebrations on Glenbrook Park, which of course is Lower Blue Mountains Rotary’s ‘gift’ to the community. After months of searching, we have established contact with one of the most acclaimed gnome artists in Australia – David Clark – who, by sheer coincidence is also a Glenbrook resident.
“A special panel has observed Mr Clark at work and were very impressed with the brilliant colours and sweeping brush strokes employed in his artistry,” he said.
Mr Cook said there will be a selection of neutral gnomes available for sale on the day and a special area will be set aside for families to paint their own gnomes.
