It was a tough weekend for two of the Penrith Panthers Youth League teams, with both suffering losses in Round 17 of the 2016 Waratah Youth League competition.
The Division One Women lost 71-70 to third-placed Hills District Hornets on Saturday afternoon at the Hills Basketball Stadium, trailing all game before staging a strong fightback in the final quarter to close the final margin to just a single point.
Ella Tofaeono led the Panthers with 22 points, ahead of Emily Potts 19 and Rhiannon Pope 11.
The Division Two Men out-played the Sydney Uni Lions in the first half of their game but fell behind in the second half to suffer an 85-76 loss.
Brad McGrath led the Panthers with 21 points, ahead of Kevin Rutemba 17.
There is a huge week ahead of the local association, with the Division One Men back in action and playing three games in Round 18. The action starts on Thursday night against the Blacktown Storm at the Kevin Betts Stadium, Mt Druitt. Saturday afternoon has the Panthers heading north to play the Northern Suburbs Bears in Crows Nest, then returning home to host the Maitland Mustangs at 3pm on Sunday.
The Division One Women are away to the Bears on Saturday, in their only game of the round, whilst the Division Two Men host the Springwood Scorchers at 1pm on Sunday.
