Hundreds of people attended the opening of the Blue Mountains Tool Library on Saturday, July 23 in Katoomba.
The tool library was officially opened by Costa Georgiadis, from ABC’s Gardening Australia, who said: “This library is about choice, about people choosing how their money is spent and on what products, and keeping their money in the local community. It’s about not accepting obsolescence and our addiction to landfill in this country.”
The library, open Saturdays from 9am-1pm in Froma Court near the Cultural Centre, is a not-for-profit artist-run initiative, where tools can be borrowed by members who subscribe annually for less than $2 per week, with tools to be returned the following week.
Several donations for the tool library were received on the day. Founding member of the library, Justin Morrissey, said: “We were overwhelmed by the amount of donations received and generosity of the community.”
