Blue Mountains City Councillor Brendan Christie has announced the Liberal Party Team for Ward 4 in the September 10 council elections.
The Liberal team will be led by Cr Christie who will be joined by former deputy mayor Jeff Egan and Mount Riverview resident Melissa McIntosh.
“I am very pleased two long term residents like Jeff and Melissa who have such a passion for our local community and extensive management experience, have chosen to be part of the Liberal team for Ward 4,” said Cr Christie
“Melissa is a great addition to the team. She is a long term resident and mother of three young children who has held senior management positions across the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors.”
“Her experience includes launching an initiative at the G20 government forum focusing on improving gender equality and women’s economic employment as well as advising the Federal Government in the treasury portfolio,” Cr Christie Said
“Jeff Egan is former deputy mayor and successful business owner who brings over 20 years of experience from both the government and corporate sectors.
“During his time as a Ward 4 Councillor Jeff delivered some great outcomes for Ward 4 including many of the footpaths and sporting facilities we enjoy today.
“He currently runs a successful business which provides strategic advice to a wide variety of large corporations, councils and government departments. His skills and experience would be invaluable to council,” said Cr Christie
Cr Christie said he would be campaigning on his strong record of achievement in Ward 4 and plan to provide improve services and facilities.
He listed his accomplishments as:
- Making our local roads safer by re-sealing Old Bathurst Road, Wilson Way, Railway Parade and investing over $100,000 to improve explorers Road.
- Working with the State Government to secure funding for green bins.
- Improving our local sporting facilities by developing plans to improve parking at Warrimoo Oval, Knapsack Park and Lapstone Oval and Lapstone Netball Courts.
- Upgrading Glenbrook Swimming Pool to ensure year round access.
“Despite these achievements there is more to do,” he said.
“My focus over the next four years will be to improve council’s finances so we can invest money into local infrastructure and improve services.
“I particularly would like to see council invest more money in footpaths, sport facilities and local roads as well as improvements to our town centres. However we need to improve councils finance and break the cycle of relying on 40 per cent rate increases as this hurts both families and seniors on a fixed income.”
Mr Egan supported Cr Christie’s comments about preserving the character of the Mountains, stating “the character of townships centres like Glenbrook and wider area are one of the reasons people visit the Mountains and it is important we preserve its existing character”.
“However we also need to improve parking and appearance of our town centres to make them more attractive places to visit and shop.”
Mrs McIntosh said Cr Christie’s plan for better facilities and services is “great news for families”.
“However I am also pleased to see he is focused on fixing council’s financial problems and easing the financial burden on families and seniors.”
