With the annual Graffiti Removal Day just around the corner on Sunday, October 30, the Lower Mountains Graffiti Removal team has suffered the worst possible setback.
Graffiti Removal ‘champion’ and outstanding community volunteer John Oakey is without a motor vehicle.
A pensioner and man of limited means, Mr Oakey has mainly self funded his amazing community service via the use of his battered old Mitsubishi sedan – with the boot laden with paint, brushes and removal liquid. He receives some support with government subsidy for paint and chemicals.
However, the vehicle was finally declared ‘not roadworthy’ last week and Mr Oakey’s operations have ground to a halt.
So, if there is a generous citizen or business in the Blue Mountains area with a reliable car/utility/van/light truck to spare, John Oakey and the entire Mountains community will be very grateful.
A permanent gift of such a vehicle would be a wonderful gesture but, the immediate need is to get Mr Oakey through to Graffiti Removal Day on October 30.
Anyone able to assist should contact John Oakey on 4739 6143.
