Local residents can meet members of the Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade at the brigade’s annual bushfire information day at Winmalee Village Shopping Centre on Saturday, October 29.
“We will have some of our trucks at the shopping centre for both children and adults to have a look over. There will be balloons and other activities for children and free sausage sandwiches,” said brigade captain, Nathan Ross-New.
“Importantly firefighters will also be on hand to answer questions from residents about preparing for the bushfire season.”
Firefighters will be handing out newly-released Bushfire Survival Plan kits that provide information to help residents consider key information to plan what they will do during a bushfire.
“It is important that all residents, if they haven’t already, prepare their homes now for the fire season. Doing just one thing each day, such as cleaning the leaves out of roof gutters or moving the winter log pile may make a large difference if a bushfire approaches,” said Mr Ross-New.
“We strongly suggest that all residents discuss their plans for what they will do if a bushfire comes with their family/”
Winmalee volunteer firefighters will be at the shopping centre from 9am.
Mr Ross-New thanked Winmalee, Yellow Rock, Hawkesbury Heights and north Springwood residents for their generosity during the brigade’s doorknock this year.
“The support of our local community is always fantastic. The funds will be put towards firefighting equipment and will assist with the upgrade of some other gear at the brigade stations,” he said.
