Lower Blue Mountains Rotarians are again looking for volunteer support from local residents to help run its Australia Day ‘party’ at Glenbrook Park.

Community support has been excellent in recent years with up to 20 people volunteering to help with set-up prior to the celebrations and clean up after the crowd departs.

Australia Day Committee Chairman Drew Fitzpatrick convened a further planning meeting last week and stated that arrangements are progressing.
He said all of the popular attractions will be on show again for the expected gathering of up to 8000 people. These include:
· Yet another memorable Australian Gnome Convention.
· Variety of international food stalls.
· Fun of the fair rides and amusements for children of all ages.
· Impressive collection of craft, souvenir, garden and cultural stalls.
· Bush picnic races for children – egg and spoon, three legged, sack.
· Top quality musical program to showcase local talent.
Rotary President Pamela Noal urged local people to join Rotarians in taking ownership of Australia Day celebrations.
“Glenbrook’s Australia Day celebrations has been acknowledged as Rotary’s gift to the local community and we all have a lot of fun planning and conducting the event,” she said.
She said there is considerable expense for Rotary – something in the vicinity of $12,000 each year.
“Whilst we do not charge an entry fee, there is a bucket available for gold coin donations at each major entry point It is a purely voluntary exercise and we do appreciate the generous support of the public,” she said.
