Mr McCarthy and his wife and business partner, Trish Collinson, have sold the landmark business to new owners and are looking forward to the next stage in their lives.
“Noel wants to go to every coffee shop in town because he never, ever leaves the store [when he’s working],” said Ms Collinson.
Working for King Gee before opening the Springwood store, Ms Collinson correctly gauged there was a gap in the retail workwear market between Katoomba and Penrith.
Mac’s Daks opened on May 16, 1996 in a small shop next to the current Bakehouse on Wentworth and has never looked back. It added an embroidery service two years after opening and quickly became a Springwood institution.
For this reason, Ms Collinson said their regular customers are “absolutely delighted” the store will continue. New owner Sandie Simmons has 21 years experience in the industry and said they plan to offer the same, popular lines while also expanding the range. They will offer screen printing and digital transfers as well as the current embroidery service.
“Customer service is our biggest concern and we want to continue looking after the regular customers,” she said.
Ms Collinson and Mr McCarthy wished the new owners all the best. They also thanked their junior staff over the years.
