A child was rushed to Westmead Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, May 24 after falling from a second-storey window at a Blaxland home.
Police said emergency services were called to Hope Street about 2.25pm following reports a child had fallen from a window.
“Officers from Blue Mountains Local Area Command attended and have commenced investigations,” police said in a statement.
“A boy, believed to be one-year-old, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.”
CareFlight's rapid response helicopter landed at nearby St Johns Road where the boy had been taken by ambulance to meet the specialist medical team.
However, after assessment by CareFlight's doctor and intensive care paramedic it was decided to transport him by road ambulance to Westmead Children’s Hospital. This way paramedics could monitor his condition using mobile intensive care equipment on the way.
He was reported to have been initially unconscious, but had regained consciousness and appeared stable when assessed by CareFlight's team.
The boy's mother was flown to Westmead in the CareFlight helicopter to be there when he arrived.
