TALK ON TOOLS
Blackheath and District Horticultural Society members will meet from 10am on Thursday, June 1 at The Lodge, Campbell Rhododendron Gardens, Bacchante Street, Blackheath. Guest speaker will be Luke Eather of CutAbove Tools who will talk about the use and design of garden tools, the suitability of tools and how to take care of them. Back to Back, a photographic exhibition by Valeska Hoischen, opens on Friday, June 2 from 6.30pm at Lyttleton Stores, 1 Badgers Crescent, Lawson. Valeska gives us a glimpse of her everyday life and approach to photography. Capturing the moment, chasing objects, freezing compositions. She is into light and shadow, oddities, strong lines and watching life age. The graphic designer and photographer lives in Germany and has spent the last four months in the Blue Mountains. Find out about Electrifying Katoomba - the People, Poles and Power Stations at Blue Mountains Historical Society’s monthly meeting and lecture on Saturday, June 3 from 10.30am at the Hobby’s Reach meeting rooms, 99 Blaxland Road, Wentworth Falls. Guest speaker Dr George Wilkenfeld has a PhD in Environmental and Urban Studies from Macquarie University, Sydney. He joined the Energy Authority of NSW in 1982, and left in 1989 to establish George Wilkenfeld and Associates. Dr Wilkenfeld has written many articles and spoken passionately about his understanding of what is happening in energy and what is at stake. GARDEN GROUP
Blue Mountains Gardens and Beautification Group will meet one week earlier than usual on Monday, June 5 from 10.30am at Glenbrook Panthers Club, Hare Street, Glenbrook. Guest speaker will be Frank Higgins on driving safely. There will be the usual raffles, plants, books and cakes for sale. Bring a flower from your garden and enter the horticultural competition.
