There was magic in the air earlier in the day at Katoomba’s annual Winter Magic Festival, but not so later that night as police reported a significant increase in violent and anti-social behaviour.
The number of assaults increased threefold on 2016’s festival, said Blue Mountains Command Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer.
A 33-year-old man from Rose Bay was punched in the head during an altercation at the Harp and Fiddle bar in Katoomba about 1.20am on Sunday, June 25.
“As a result of that one punch, the 33-year-old victim fell to the ground and immediately lost consciousness,” said Insp Almer.
The man was taken to Katoomba Hospital for scans, suffering from concussion, bruising and swelling.
The offender fled the scene and is wanted by police. He is described as a 25 to 30-year-old Caucasian man, about 180cm tall, skinny with short hair, wearing a grey and white chequered shirt and light coloured pants.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Springwood police on 4751 0299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote reference number E63923709.
And in a separate incident during Winter Magic festivities, a Hazelbrook teenager was punched by numerous people and struck to the head with a glass bottle outside Civic Place in Katoomba.
The altercation occurred between 6pm and 8pm on Saturday, June 24.
“Numerous offenders punched a 16-year-old male from Hazelbrook several times, before one of the offenders struck the victim in the head with a glass bottle which caused multiple lacerations to the victim's face,” Insp Almer said.
The teenager was treated at Katoomba Hospital.
A crime scene was established and police seized some items. Anyone with information should contact Springwood police or Crime Stoppers and quote reference number E65453063.
