WALLS TALK
Keith Painter will explain “Why Hassans Walls were Prized and Pillaged” at the Blue Mountains Historical Society’s monthly meeting and public lecture on Saturday, July 1 from 10am at 99 Blaxland Road, Wentworth Falls. Mr Painter is an author and publisher, writer and researcher of bushwalking guidebooks and local history books. In his latest book, Hassans Walls : Prized and Pillaged, he explores the brooding hills near Lithgow which overlook the Hartley and Kanimbla Valleys. ACTOR SPEAKS
The next meeting of the Blue Mountains VIEW Club will be held on Wednesday, June 28 from 11am at the Waldorf Garden Resort. Guest speaker will be retired English actor, Lee Young. Lunch will follow. The VIEW Clubs of Australia work for the Smith Family, supporting children with their education.

Mid Mountains Ladies Probus Club members will meet on Tuesday, July 11 from 10am at Wentworth Falls Country Club. The guest speaker will be Liz Benson on “Gardening for Birds”. At the June meeting members and visitors enjoyed an interesting talk about present-day Africa by Derek Jones. Blue Mountains Gardens and Beautification Group will meet on Monday, July 10 from 10.30am at Glenbrook Panthers Club, Hare Street, Glenbrook. Guest speaker will be Bruce Higgs from Darvill Wholesale Nursery who has a scientific background, Diploma in Horticulture and an extensive knowledge of all aspects of gardening. There will be the usual raflles, plants, books and cakes for sale. Bring a flower from your garden and enter the Horticultural Competition to win a prize. YOUNG PARENTS
Parenting Young is a group for men and women up to the age of 24 which meets every Friday during school terms, from 10am-12.30pm, under the Lawson Library. Young parents can meet others while their children play and make friends in a safe and supportive environment. They are currently fundraising for a mini-retreat in early September which involves Erica from Women’s Health who will facilitate a meditation workshop and discuss relationships, respect and being the best parents you can be. There will be pampering for the parents, children’s activities, a drumming workshop and lunch supplied by Katoomba High school students. JUMBLE SALE
Leura/Wentworth Falls Baptist Church, corner of the Great Western Highway and Leura Mall, Leura, is starting a weekly Tuesday morning jumble sale as fundraising for a new program of community-based age care. The object is to provide project-based activities for seniors to enable them to build networks and find support groups to counter the rising trend of social isolation among aged people in the Blue Mountains. The sale will take place from 9.30am-12.30pm. All welcome.
HIGH SCHOOL REUNION
Were you a Year 10 student of Lithgow High School in 1977? Then you are invited to attend a reunion being planned for November. Former students and teachers of Lithgow High School are invited to drinks and dinner at a local Lithgow hotel on Friday, November 17, a tour of the school on the morning of Saturday, November 18 and then the official function that night at Black Gold Motel, Wallerawang. Anyone who attended Year 7 to 10 from 1974 to 1977 is welcome, even if you left before the school certificate. The reunion is also including Year 11 of 1978 and Year 12 of 1979 as these students and teachers do not have reunions.
