Blue Mountains netballers have again proved their skill on the court.
The Blue Mountains Netball Association’s 15/U Division Two side had a clean sweep at the NSW State Age Championships in Sydney from July 1-3, to be crowned state champions.
The team were undefeated with 17 wins, finishing eight points ahead of runners-up Inner Western Suburbs.
Coach Jenni Tomkins, was extremely proud of the team.
“The aim this year was to get that number one spot. The girls all wanted to achieve that place,” she said.
“It was three days of intense netball. They [the other teams] all want to defeat the undefeated team.”
Tomkins has coached the team for the past two years, which has remained mostly the same apart from the addition of two new players who have fitted in well.
She said the key to the team’s success at the championships was: “hard work, determination and wanting to all work together as a team. And just the basic team spirit, the girls all believe in each other and that they can get to the top. They worked really hard with lots of training sessions and fitness sessions and carnivals and parents’ support.”
The Blue Mountains also fielded three other teams in this year’s tournament. The 14/U team finished sixth, and the 12/U and 13/U teams both finished 13th.
More than 3500 athletes from 294 teams representing 83 associations across NSW contested this year’s tournament.
