The school uniforms were out and people hit the dance floor.
Kate Chidlow’s Funkfest fundraiser for the One Girl charity was a success on September 9, with 160 people turning out for an enjoyable evening in Lawson.
“Most were in some kind of school attire or some other silly garb and there were a lot of hairy legs on display,” Ms Chidlow said.
“The music, generously donated for free, was amazing with Blume's sweet voices, then Samba Trombada got everyone on the dance floor with their pumping drums and the dancing continued all night with great salsa from Babalu, finishing with some dynamic ska from Papa Gonzo.”
There was also delicious food and great raffle prizes.
She surpassed her fundraising target of $5000, reaching $5700.
“This will help educate and improve quite a few girls' futures from Sierra Leone and Uganda,” Ms Chidlow said.
The charity helps girls receive a high school education. They provide scholarships, school uniforms, school buildings, toilets and other resources to help keep girls in school.
People were encouraged to wear a school dress as part of One Girl’s annual ‘Do it in a Dress’ campaign to raise awareness and money to help the cause.
“Thank you to all the wonderful friends and family that helped make this a great night and thank you also to the local Mountains businesses that donated produce and vouchers so generously,” Ms Chidlow said.
