Mathiske has just released what he describes as “his best work to date” in CD soundawareness.
The new release has been specifically composed and arranged by Mathiske and, while still predominantly guitar-based and featuring his own distinct playing style, he also collaborates with Australia's elite and diverse artists including James Morrison, John Paul Young, John Harding, Chris Duncan, Andy Firth, Sally Walker and more.
Mathiske is internationally recognised as a maestro of the guitar. With a career spanning three decades, he has delighted audiences around the world with not just his phenomenal level of technical brilliance but, more importantly, with his instinctive ability to absorb and understand, then master and consummately deliver just about any style of music.
His influences come from the culmination of a lifetime of absorbing music and sounds. In concert his warmth, virtuosity and humour have captivated audiences all over the globe.
His show is a journey of infectious rhythms, fiery fretwork and flavours of gypsy, jungle and flamenco.
Adrian Morgan in The Scotsman wrote of Mathiske’s Edinburgh Festival performance: “This virtuoso is one of Australia’s musical superstars. The notes explode from both hands leaving you to wonder if there is another Mathiske in the wings.”
Tony Hillier in The Australian wrote: “Mathiske’s status as one of the world’s finest acoustic string-benders was established via equally imaginative and virtuosic solo album My Life My Life.”
Mathiske plays at the New Ivanhoe Hotel, Blackheath, on Friday, October 13, at 7.30pm. Tickets: $20 available at the bar or at the door on the night.
