Bring the family and enjoy author talks, kids’ writing workshops, house and garden tours, music and poetry in the garden and more. Everyone is welcome, entry to the house and gardens is free, and you’re welcome to bring a picnic.
“Open Day events provide an opportunity for our local community to access Varuna, which is such an important part of our national cultural estate,” said creative director, Amy Sambrooke.
“The rest of the year Varuna is such a quiet place, a real haven for the writers who visit from right across Australia, but we’re turning that on its head for open day.”
Some events such as the kids’ writing workshop with local poet Vanessa Kirkpatrick, and the conversation with shortlisted 2017 Miles Franklin Award writer Mark O'Flynn and Kate Fagan are likely to book out, so people are encouraged to book tickets in advance.
Visitors are welcome to explore the house and garden and have a cuppa and a chat with the volunteers, board and staff.
Varuna, the National Writers’ House is located at 141 Cascade St, Katoomba.
