The 1950s were prosperous, vibrant years heralding an era of great change. Modernists were helping to re-shape life in Australia and influencing most aspects of our lives from art, design and architecture, literature, advertising and fashion. The conservatism, restraint and formality of the earlier decades was moving to a freer, looser, more informal life style.
In this time of luxury and style, several new groups emerged - the modern housewife, the career woman and the new teenage culture.
Take a glimpse into these 1950s lives in the Cavalcade of Fashion Fabulous Fifties at the Penrith Regional Gallery and The Lewers Bequest.
The presentation is hosted by the Friends of the Gallery on October 14, at 2pm, $25 per person and includes afternoon tea.
The presentation shows the clothes and accessories worn by real women during the fifties and tells some of their fascinating stories.
Bookings are essential as seating is limited. Contact Fiona Knoke on 4732 8702. Please pay on the day, cash only.
This is a fundraising event and all proceeds go towards The Friends of the Gallery restoration projects.
