Mackay will be in conversation about two of his books.
At the first event he will talk about his book 'The Art of Belonging', in which he proposes that a ‘good life’ is not lived in isolation or in the pursuit of independent goals; a good life is lived at the heart of a thriving community, among people we trust, and within an environment of mutual respect.
As he writes: “We are, by nature, social creatures … we are not good at surviving in isolation. We rely on communities to support and sustain us, … we need communities and they need us.”
That speech will be given on Thursday November 23 at 7pm at the Korowal School Hall at 54 Hall Parade, Hazelbrook. Contact 4758 7466 for tickets, $15, concession: $10. Purchase online at https://www.trybooking.com/SKSQ.
Another event will be held as part of the Lower Mountains Neighbourhood Centre’s Think BIG!’ Ideas Forum.
Here Mackay will speak on his most recent book, ‘Beyond Belief’, where he argues that while our attachment to a traditional idea of God may be waning, our desire for a life of meaning remains as strong as ever.
This event will be held on Saturday November 25 at 2pm at the Lower Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, 33 Hope Street, Blaxland. Inquiries: 4739 1164. Tickets: $10 - purchase online at https://www.trybooking.com/318957.
Mackay is a regular columnist in The Age and a radio and TV commentator. His visit will co-incide with Korowal School’s 40th birthday on November 25.
A celebration will be held from 11am to 3pm at the school in Hall Parade to mark the occasion. Search for Korowal School on Facebook or go to www.korowal.nsw.edu.au.
