New president for Radio Blue Mountains

A new president and management committee were voted in at the Radio Blue Mountains annual general meeting.

“I'm honoured and delighted to be elected as president of Radio Blue Mountains,” said Julie Ankers, author and speaker.

“I'll be rolling up my sleeves, along with my fellow management committee members, to ensure the sustainability of the radio station as we move into the digital era.”

“I want RBM to have greater community engagement, so we will be updating the website and social media, and make sure that everyone knows the scope of amazing programs that we have on air,” she said.

“Our radio station is powered by the incredible volunteers who give their time to create such diverse shows each week.

“I would like to thank the outgoing President, Hereward Dundas-Taylor, for all his work at RBM over the last three years,” said Ms Ankers. “Hereward guided the station through our move to the great new facilities at Katoomba TAFE which is a natural home for such a valuable community asset.”

Patrick Leonard was elected vice-president, Ron Green as treasurer, Richard Holz as secretary, and El Gibbs, Justin Morrisey and Travis Hackett as members of the management committee.

“We're working on new sponsorship packages for local business and to keep building on our signal strength to reach more of the Blue Mountains community,” said Ms Ankers.

“There is also room to grow our great range of programs, so if you are passionate about gardening, or animals, or local history, get in touch. We'll be doing regular training and capacity building for all presenters, including the skills of the new radio era, such as social media and podcasting.

“I love community radio because it is of the community – our radio station sounds like the Blue Mountains, and is the heart of our area. Come and get involved,” said Ms Ankers.

“People can support the radio station by becoming members, volunteering and presenting programs. Find out more through our website at or come and see us at the office in the TAFE building in Parke Street, Katoomba.”
