WestWords and Katoomba’s Gallery ONE88 will launch a new writers’ room in Katoomba on Saturday, December 16.
The Den 24/7 WestWords Writers’ Room, located at 188 Katoomba Street, will provide local aspiring writers with a comfortable working space, free wifi, mentoring opportunities and workshops.
WestWords is a not-for-profit charity working across Greater Western Sydney with centres in Campbelltown, Parramatta and now in Katoomba. They work closely with writers and artists of all ages to celebrate the people, places and cultures that are at the heart of western Sydney. WestWords delivers a comprehensive program of residencies, fellowships, workshops, presentations and publications.
Executive Director of WestWords, Michael Campbell, said: “WestWords is absolutely thrilled to continue its relationship with the Blue Mountains, first with Varuna, The Writers’ House, and now working with Gallery ONE88. This new creative space will enable writers, artists and creatives of all genres to contribute their voice to already vibrant and culturally diverse landscape of the region.”
Victor Peralta, Director of Gallery ONE88 said: “What a brilliant collaboration of two like-minded ventures – ONE88 and WestWords. With GalleryONE88’s diverse range of artists, including illustrators, the move to work with WestWords on the development of writers’ rooms is an important addition to the services and art forms available at ONE88. Since opening its doors in 2015, several book launches have been held at ONE88, and our network includes writers, authors and filmmakers, many of whom will benefit greatly from the venue.”
The WestWords Western Sydney Writers’ Rooms are a network of three Writers’ Rooms in Campbelltown, Parramatta and Katoomba, and are part of the Making Spaces initiative supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
