Last month, the first Inspired By Art exhibition was held at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre.
This exhibition was a collaboration of work from people with different abilities. This project has been running for the last three years as a joint effort of Greystanes Disability Services, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre and artist Clare Delaney.
This project is a testament to the talents of people with different abilities working side by side, collaborating, negotiating and then exhibiting their art work in the gallery.
Delaney has been inspirational and creative throughout the project, ensuring that the classes have been inclusive of everyone and allowing everyone to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. The project involved the participants visiting the gallery and then creating artworks or project inspired by the works they had seen. Delaney then curated the exhibition with different abilities in mind adjusting the works so people in wheelchairs could enjoy the visual experience as well.
Kimberley, a participant of the project since the inception, said: “I learnt that you don’t have to be good at drawing or painting and know what you’re doing to create an art work, it will come naturally.
“It has given me self confidence in creating something that I have never done before. The art course teaches you different ways to do art and create something that inspires you.”
The art project will run in 2018 and all enquires should be made to the Cultural Centre on 4780 5410.
