Rockabilly and vintage enthusiasts can step out in style on Saturday, January 20 at the annual Lady Luck Festival at The Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.
By day, Lady Luck is fun, fashion, food and entertainment for the whole family, with free admission to bands, market stalls, Miss Lady Luck and Little Miss Lady Luck competitions, the hot rod and vintage car show, swing dancing, public dance lessons and a jumping castle for the kids.
An eclectic array of vintage cars and bikes will be on display in Katoomba St for the Show n’ Shine car show, with entrants to start lining up as early as 6am to get one of the prime spots.
The day activities run from 11am to 5pm on Katoomba St, Carrington Place, Carrington Hotel gardens and grounds, and within the hotel itself.
At night, the Lady Luck Afterparty in the grand dining room requires people to frock up and come along to dance the night away to live music from Rachel Brady and the Moonshine Special, DJ Rockin’ Marc Rondeau and the dance brilliance of the Sydney Swing Katz.
Founded in 2009 by Karl and Penny Percival, the festival showcases “customs and culture” from the fabulous 1950s.
The festival is a fundraiser for the Black Dog Institute, and is in memory of the late Mr Percival, a longterm employee of The Carrington, who worked on the front desk in the reservations area.
“He was well known for his great enthusiasm for the music and cars – his own beloved car was called Myrtle – of the 1950s, an avid attendee and supporter of rockabilly bands and Rock and Roll festivals, where he was always promoting the Lady Luck Festival,” said Lady Luck co-ordinator Fiona Morrison.
Katoomba St will be closed between the top roundabout and Pryor Place from 6am – 7pm.
