Not to be missed, audiences and critics alike have raved about Faith I Branko’s high energy live performances world-wide:
“Musically a delight… These virtuosic performers are a major discovery,” said The Guardian; “Moving, breathtaking and virtuosic,” said BBC Radio; while legendary entertainer Stephen Fry and fellow performer Lily Allen have described them as “quite remarkable musicians” and “totally amazing”, respectively.
Combining the accordion, violin, effects pedal and tabor pipe, Faith I Branko and their extraordinarily talented ensemble take the audience on a journey from melancholy Roma violin laments to storming Serbian Kolos, with explorations into jazz improvisation, swing, gypsy rumba, Turkish and Indian influenced music.
Joyous, passionate, boisterous, fiery and spirited, Branko’s violin soars at break-neck paces whilst Faith’s nimble accordion accompaniment provides a beautiful bedrock.
Faith from the UK and Branko from Serbia met in Branko’s Roma village in 2009. With music as their only tool for communication, they began a journey that would lead to the creation of their acclaimed debut album Gypsy Lover and their marriage! They are now international Romani figures and perform regularly at major concert venues and music events such as Royal Festival Hall (London), Glastonbury Festival, Ealing Jazz Festival and the Vienna Roma Festival.
Faith I Branko on Friday, February 23 at 8pm, at Blue Mountains Theatre, 106 Macquarie Road Springwood. Tickets $35/$30 at the box office, on 4723 5050 or at www.bluemountainstheatre.com.
