Being prepared for any emergency is important for the residents of the Blue Mountains. To keep our community safe, especially during storms, volunteers of the NSW SES are trained at the highest standard to respond to any calls for help.
The Blue Mountains SES Unit is now looking for new volunteers to become part of the team based in Katoomba.
The SES is responsible for storm and flood response as well as assisting other emergency services, such as the police in search operations and the Rural Fire Service with bushfire support roles.
“We are looking for volunteers to be trained up for both field response and operational management based at our headquarters in Katoomba,” said John Hughes, Local Controller for the Blue Mountains Unit.
“Our field members are trained in storm damage, flood operations as well as support roles such as land search and vertical rescue.
“The operations team members are there to help co-ordinate field teams to incidents and events across the Blue Mountains.”
The SES is a registered training organisation which provides nationally recognised training in all aspects of emergency management as well as subjects such as first aid and chainsaw operations.
There are no costs as all safety equipment and uniforms are provided.
Anyone over 16 years of age who would like more information is invited to attend an information night at 7.30pm on Wednesday, February 21 at the emergency services headquarters, Valley Rd, Katoomba.
