The Blue Mountains Concert Society presents The Enchanted Flute as the first concert of its 2018 series. The show is on March 3 at 7.30pm with renowned artists, Melissa Doecke and Mark Isaacs, performing a unique selection of French and Australian music in an inspiring and enthralling flute and piano performance.
The program includes works by French composers Claude Debussy, Henri Dutilleux and Poulenc. Australian composers Ross Edwards and Mark Isaacs bring their own Australian touch to the concert with Isaacs’ “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn for flute and piano” and “Sonatine for flute and piano” and Ross Edwards’ “Nura”, “Water Spirit Song” and “Ulpirra”.
Melissa Doecke is one of Australia’s most exciting flautists, with a busy career of recitals, orchestral work and chamber music performances across the entire range of repertoire for flute. She has performed widely across Australia, the UK and Europe. Melissa is co-artistic director of Inventi Ensemble, an exciting new chamber ensemble based in Melbourne.
Mark Isaacs is an internationally-acclaimed composer, pianist and conductor in classical music and jazz. Playing since the age of five and composing since his teenage years, he has received many awards including an Australia Council Fellowship. Isaacs' more than 100 composed works includes two symphonies for full orchestra, a chamber symphony, pieces for solo instrument and orchestra (trumpet, piano, violin, flute, cello and cor anglais), string quartets, general orchestral music including for jazz group and orchestra, two books of piano preludes and other solo piano music, numerous chamber ensemble works, choral works, an oratorio, a mini-opera, a musical, big band pieces and scores for film, television and the theatre.
