The RSPCA shelter at Katoomba is offering bargain prices this weekend in the hope of rehousing as many of its animals as possible.
The ‘Clear the Shelters’ campaign means most animals will be available for adoption for just $29 between Friday and Sunday.
The campaign, which broke records for the amount of adoptions in NSW last year, is being adopted by other RSPCA shelters, and will include many different species of animals from dogs and cats to pockets pets and even some livestock.
Normal adoption procedures apply and all animals are desexed, microchipped, and vaccinated.
“The reduced adoption fee doesn’t come near covering the costs of preparing an animal for adoption, so we can’t offer these low prices all the time – but we also don’t want money to be the only obstacle to bringing a pet into a happy and loving home,” said RSPCA Australia CEO, Heather Neil.
“Importantly, our data has shown us that the price of acquiring an animal has no influence on the long-term success of adoption and welfare outcomes,
“We want to get pets out of the shelter and into their new homes as quickly as possible, so this is a win for the animal and a win for anyone wanting to adopt a new pet - and that’s a great outcome for us.”
The Katoomba shelter is at 121-125 Mort Street. It is open from 10am-3.30pm daily (closed Wednesdays).
