The Leura Garden Force is rebuilding.
The volunteer group, which maintains many of the public garden areas around the town, had to be disbanded four years ago because of insurance issues.
But the Leura Village Association (LVA) has now changed its insurance policy to one which will cover the garden volunteers – up to the age of 80.
“We’re looking for people of every age to help make Leura beautiful for the residents first and also for the tourists,” said LVA president, Piercarlo Cuneo.
The old Garden Force had a contingent of about 25 volunteers who would be rostered on for duty about once a month, largely weeding and mulching with occasional watering of new plantings.
The areas to be maintained include the top of the mall, the highway around the Alex pub, along parts of Megalong Street and in Craigend Street near Gladstone.
No experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a pride in the local community and Leura’s international reputation as a garden village.
Volunteers will need to join the association, but it will be a nominal fee of only a few dollars, Mr Cuneo said. The force is supported by council.
