Dare Disability workers in the Blue Mountains have been doing such a good job making surveyors stakes their contract has been extended to make thousands more.
Dare Industries have a team working on custom-made stakes to mark out house blocks for a new neighbourhood at The Gables Box Hill for the developer Celestino.
“We’ve made 2000 stakes so far and will be filling and delivering orders to The Gables as needed over the next two years,” said Dare sales co-ordinator Sonja Musson.
“This kind of stable, long-term project provides a beneficial sense of routine for our supported employees. This work environment also provides them with a chance to form friendships, it gives them something to be proud of, and creates valuable skills to enable the achievement of individual employment goals.”
Celestino’s surveying contractor Proust and Gardner Consulting, has commissioned Dare to make and paint 4000 stakes for all new homes being built in The Gables. A total of 15,000 stakes will be required over 10 years.
“Social sustainability is built into our business model and a high priority for Celestino,” said development director Matthew Scard.
“We work hard to build communities that are inclusive and accessible, and employment is an important part of social inclusion. So, for these reasons, it makes corporate sense for us to work in association with all of our consultants and in this case, Dare.”
Mr Scard said the custom-made stakes were well received by buyers at The Gables.
“Staking out the home on the lot is an important milestone for people building their new home at The Gables,” he said.
“Many of our future residents have said they will keep the stakes as a memento of their first step into The Gables.”
