Handsome princes, wicked witches, Snow White, Peter Pan and many more will be the order of the day when the Three Sisters Social Group holds its 37th annual costume ball in June.
A highlight of the Blue Mountains social calendar each year, the theme of the much-anticipated gala has been announced as “Disney”, giving attendees a host of options for dressing up.
John Wilson, president of the popular LGBT social group, said the theme was a logical follow-on from last year’s ball.
“Last year, the theme was ‘fabulous fifties’ and we noticed that several groups came in Disney-themed outfits - one group came as the Mickey Mouse Club, another had an Alice in Wonderland theme - so we thought let’s expand on that this year and go with a ‘Disney’ theme,” said Mr Wilson.
“It’s a theme that gives great scope for dressing up and some truly fabulous outfits.”
The 37th annual costume ball will be held at Fairmont Resort, Leura on Sunday night, June 10 and is the landmark event of the Blue Mountains’ annual Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend celebrations. The weekend sees people from across NSW and as far away as Queensland, Victoria and New Zealand gather in the Mountains for LGBT events including the ball, the Blackheath Disco and the bentART exhibition at Wentworth Falls.
While the ball is an LGBT community event, it is open to all friends and allies of the community. Last year, attendees included Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman.
Tickets to the ball ($150) include welcome drinks, a three-course gourmet meal, complimentary wine, a floorshow by LayDee KinMee of Australia’s Got Talent and Drags to Bitches fame, a live band, DJs, dance floor and prizes for ‘best in theme’ in the categories of male, female, couple, group, table and Belle of the Ball.
“We’re very pleased to offer this level of food, drink and entertainment at an all-inclusive price, which will support the Three Sisters Social Group in our community-building endeavours,” said Mr Wilson, who added that an ‘early bird’ discount of $10 would apply to tickets bought by the end of March.
Last year, the Three Sisters Social Group donated $2000 to Blue Mountains Cancer Wellness Support, $1900 to the Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), $1000 to bentART and provided a Christmas present for each Meals on Wheels recipient in the Blue Mountains.
In addition to the annual ball, the group also hosts regular lunches and dinners throughout the year, as well as a disco in February and June.
