Students at Lawson Public School are drinking more water thanks to the recent installation of two new water bubblers.
The bubblers were installed in the playground used by kindergarten to year two students. Assistant principal Alicia Howard said previously the students had to leave this playground to access bubblers in the area for years two-six.
“The kids decided this should be fixed,” she said.
And so they set themselves a large fundraising target, raising $15,000 during a colour run held in November 2016.
“It was an ambitious fundraising venture, the biggest one we’ve ever done,” Mrs Howard said.
“The kids generated the idea.”
About half the funds went towards the purchase and installation of the bubblers, the remainder to a literacy program.
The brightly coloured bubblers are easily seen and have multiple drinking stations to cater for different heights.
“The kids keep hydrated, keep active and healthy,” Mrs Howard said.
