An 83-year-old Mt Riverview motorcyclist has died after a two-vehicle crash at Wentworth Falls on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway near Tableland Road, about 11.30am, following reports of a car and motorcycle crash.
On arrival, Blue Mountains police officers found the motorcyclist in a critical condition. He was treated onsite but died at the scene.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and have urged anyone with information or dash cam vision to come forward. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The Great Western Highway was closed in both directions for several hours.
Police have reminded drivers to slow down during the school holidays in the wake of the fatality.
“Take your time, don’t make rash decisions and be respectful to other road users. It may only add an extra minute or two to your journey and you’ll arrive alive,” said Blue Mountains Police Superintendent Darryl Jobson.
Charged over Lawson crash
An unlicensed 29-year-old man driving a stolen car, has been charged over a multi-vehicle crash at Lawson on April 12 which injured seven people.
Police will allege a stolen Holden Commodore and a Mazda 3 collided, causing the Mazda to crash into a Toyota Corolla.
The man was arrested and placed under police guard at Nepean Hospital. He has since been charged with two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct (in charge of motor vehicle); driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner; and never licensed person driving a vehicle on the road.
The man has been refused bail and will appear at Penrith Local Court on April 20. Inquiries continue.
Car fire
Emergency services were called to a car on fire near Blaxland McDonald’s on the afternoon of April 12.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. No-one was injured in the incident.
The driver was believed to be travelling from Wollongong to Orange when his car burst into flames about 2pm.
Bush rescue
Two bushwalkers got into difficulty in failing light and rough terrain in the national park at Glenbrook on April 8, requiring assistance from emergency services.
They activated their personal locator beacon in the Erskine Creek area and a paramedic was winched in to stay with the walkers until help arrived on foot. They were escorted back to safety at 11pm.
