The Blue Mountains Radio Players have a new venue – the ballroom of the Palais Royale at 230 Katoomba St. The next performance is on Sunday, August 26 at 2:30pm. For details go to Blue Mountains Radio Players Facebook page.
The Radio Players group was established by Blue Mountains author and historian, Juliette Palmer-Frederick in 1991 and has run continuously since in various venues, including Mt Vic Flicks and the Paragon Café theatre.
A balance of plays is presented, with light comedy to darker themed stories from British, American and Australian sources, with regular presentations of radio plays written or transcribed by members. Many of the plays represent the Golden Years of radio plays from the 1930s to 1950s.
Since its inception, the Radio Players group has seen many cast members, including professional actors, all from the Blue Mountains. The group currently has a base of about 20 members to call upon, enabling large cast plays to be performed.
The Palais Royale ballroom is an ideal venue for presenting the radio plays, and audience members can chat with the players at afternoon tea after the presentation.
