Blue Mountains workers in the construction industry got a health “check-up” on October 19 at a special event organised by Blue Eco Homes, Stainless Steel Worx and Woodford Homes.
The “Staying Healthy in the Construction Industry” day was held at Hazelbrook Bowling Club and featured a range of guests speakers. Topics include workplace health and safety, fitness and nutrition coaching, mental health, and social media in the workplace.
Blue Mountains MP Trish Doyle and Macquarie MP Susan Templeman also attended the event.
The day finished with a fun game of bare foot bowls with Trish Doyle presenting the prizes. Woodford Homes took out first place.
“The day was a huge success and everyone that attended said they found it a very informative, engaging and fun day,” said event spokeswoman Teresa Henson of Stainless Steel Worx.
NSW Government data reveals that smoking and harmful alcohol consumption in the construction industry is significantly above the national average and many workers struggle to maintain a healthy weight. These lifestyle factors contribute towards an increased risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Suppliers that provided prizes for the day included: Hudson’s; HR King; Beaver Brands; Klingspor; Emro; Sutton Tools; Apex Tools; Bordo Industrial Tools; Macsim Fastening; Pferd.
