Lower Blue Mountains Rotarians are looking for volunteers to help run their Australia Day “party” at Glenbrook Park.
Community support has been excellent in recent years with up to 20 people volunteering to assist with the set up prior to the celebrations and cleaning up after the crowd departs.
Community minded volunteers should contact Peter Agar on 0410 498 466 to register their name and contact details – or request further information.
Australia Day Committee chairman Drew Fitzpatrick said that arrangements are progressing well at this time.
He said all of the popular attractions will be on show again for the expected gathering of 6000 to 8000 people:
- The 15th Australian Gnome Convention.
- More than 100 international food and market stalls.
- Rides and amusements for children of all ages.
- Impressive collection of craft, souvenir, garden and cultural stalls.
- Bush picnic races for children – egg and spoon, three legged, sack.
- Top quality musical program in the big marquee to showcase local talent.
Rotary President Michelle Fisher urged local people to join Rotarians in taking ownership of Australia Day celebrations on January 26, 2019.
“Glenbrook’s Australia Day celebrations has been acknowledged as Rotary’s gift to the local community and we all have a lot of fun planning and conducting the event,” she said.
The president explained that there is also considerable expense for Rotary – something in the vicinity of $12,000 each year.
‘Whilst we do not charge an entry fee, there is a bucket available for gold coin donations at each major entry point and we do appreciate the generous support of the public,” she said.
