The Spirit of Christmas
The Blue Mountains City RSL Band will continue its much-loved tradition of collaborating with the Heathens Choir from Blackheath and Katoomba Public School Band to celebrate the spirit of Christmas and the coming holiday season.
This year the concert will also feature the accomplished ‘Blue Bones’ trombone quartet.
The annual Christmas concert is a thoroughly inclusive event, bringing together over 100 local instrumentalists and singers to put on a wonderful selection of music for people of all ages to enjoy.
Directed by Volker Schoeler, the concert will feature a creative combination of Christmas music and music in the spirit of Christmas. There will be items from each group as well as big band and choir renditions of old favourites including Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon & Garfunkel), Let Your Love Flow (Bellamy Brothers) and As Long as You Love Me (Backstreet Boys).
Especially for the season and for this concert, band and choir will perform Wonderful Peace by Swedish composer Gustaf Nordquist. The audience will be invited to help bring the concert to a wonderful finale by joining in the singing of some well-known carols.
All proceeds from the $10 entry will go to the Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group to help them continue their excellent work.
The concert will take place at St Hilda’s Church in Katoomba on Sunday, December 9 at 3pm.
