Award-winning country music band the Wolfe Brothers have become a howling success and are set to rock the Blue Mountains for the first time this month.
Consisting of a former postman, carpenter and mechanic, the Tasmanian trio have come a long way to perform at the Hydro Majestic in Medlow Bath as part of their ‘Country Heart National Tour’.
“2018 was our most successful year and we’re hoping to top it this year," said guitarist Brodie Rainbird. "We’re touring in a way we’ve never been able to do before and we’re really trying to connect to people.”
Rainbird, along with bandmates, brothers Tom and Nick Wolfe, are currently riding high after taking home four Golden Guitar awards at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January.
“We didn’t expect it at all, we were hoping to just get one [award]. After the first one, it was a relief to finally get that industry recognition because we’ve never had one before … then the other three just kept coming and it was incredible.”
It comes as yet another achievement for the country rockers after their album, Country Heart, debuted at number nine on the ARIA charts last March.
Rainbird said authenticity played a big part in the album's success.
“We found ourselves writing a lot of true lyrics about who we are and where we are from. I think that was a catalyst for why it connected to people – because it was authentic. It’s just about us and our real life.”
Rainbird met Nick on the school bus in year 7 and discovered shared a love for music.
“Back then we were two young guitarists and we just wanted to play guitar like Van Halen and Led Zeppelin and all the heavy metal stuff. That’s what we were really into,” he said.
Placing second in the 2012 season of Australia’s Got Talent helped the band jumpstart their career and tour with country music legend Lee Kernaghan.
“It’s pretty cliché but it generally was the opportunity that changed our lives. We got great management. We started playing with Lee and quit our jobs… That was a big year for us.”
Ahead of their show, Rainbird offers advice to aspiring local musicians to stay determined and put in the hard yards.
“Just keep working hard. There’s a lot of tests and a lot of high moments and low moments. It feels like we’ve been on the road non-stop since 2012… It’s a great life, it’s not a normal life but it’s very good.”
