There's a new club in the Blue Mountains and they are on a mission to improve the wellbeing of women.
The Zonta Club of the Blue Mountains formed in March, when members of the Nepean Valley club thought to test the waters and see if they had enough members to start their own Mountains group.
They have 15 members so far, and have already started work on projects.
They'll be organising days at Springwood and Winmalee High Schools for students to assemble birthing kits, which will go to women in developing countries.
"The kits save mothers and babies lives," said club president Helen Grimson.
They'll also be funding the reprinting of cards with critical phone numbers for women seeking support in domestic violence situations, which will be given to the Blue Mountains Women's Health and Resource Centre to distribute as necessary.
The third project will provide toilet bags to Wimlah women's refuge. Mrs Grimson said toilet bag donations were welcome, and to email bluemountains@zontadistrict24.org to arrange drop off.
The Blue Mountains club meets on the first Wednesday of the month in Woodford. All men and women are welcome. RSVP to bluemountains@zontadistrict24.org.
Zonta International is a global organisation of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. They envision a world where women have access to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on an equal basis with men, and do no live in fear of violence.
